| BRODY ROCK BAND,
EDINBURGH. 1970'S Back in the dim and
distant past of the 1970s there was an Edinburgh band called Brody.
They had a big following and they often played in Nicky Tams Tavern in Victoria Street a
couple of times a fortnight. Alternate weeks were filled by other local bands, including
Netherbow who also used to play the Palace Hotel in Castle Street, Sunday lunchtimes.
The Brody line up was: Kenny Brodie on
lead guitar, Dave Scott on Bass, Kenny McDonald on
keyboards, Tom Archibald on drums and Ron Jackson on
lead vocals. Sound engineer was John Ramsay (later with Silly Wizard and
Simple Minds) and the hairy roadie was Charlie Beattie.
Below are some black and white contact sheets of pics taken
at three locations.
Sheets 1 - 4
This outside gig was photographed at the Ross Bandstand in Princes Street Gardens,
Edinburgh in the summer of 1975.
Sheets 5 - 8
These were shot at the Assembly Rooms in George Street, date unknown. The other
band snapped doing a soundcheck on stage was Be-Bop Deluxe who as far as
I remember were the headline band with Brody as support.
Sheets 9 - 13
These two and a quarter square shots were done at Nicky Tams on Wednesday 20th
August 1975.
Sheets 14 and 15
Dave Scott had left the band by now, and some of these shots show the late Colin
Archbold on bass guitar, both at the band's practice hall out at Hermiston, and
also on stage. As far as I can remember, this particular gig took place in the social club
at the old Edinburgh Corporation bus garage off Leith Walk.
Sheet 16
This final sheet again shows Colin Archbold, along with Tom Archibald relaxing at
Hermiston. The other pic is a camera shy Charlie Beattie hiding under his Afghan coat.
